Headlines: George Washington Becomes First President Of U.S/ 2.8% Turnout For Early Voting/Hill Country Fire Coalition Is Recipient of $10,000 grant/ Boerne High School's Top 10 Seniors
It’s Wednesday, April 30.
236 years ago today, in 1789, George Washington, the first president of the United States, was inaugurated in Federal Hall in New York City, addressing his new constituency on “the proceedings of a new and free government.”
This is Jeff Flinn of the Boerne Star, sitting in for Boerne Radio’s Baron Wiley. Early voting came to a close Tuesday. Of our 38,504 registered Kendall County voters, with Tuesday’s tally still out, only 1,079 votes had been cast, a 2.8 percent turnout. Come on, Boerne, we’re better than that. Polls are open Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Go do your part, cast your vote -- you’ll thank yourself later.
The Hill Country Fire Coalition is the recipient of a $10,000 grant, one of only 12 in the nation, in support of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day being held Saturday May 3, from the National Fire Protection Association and State Farm. With the funding, the organization will provide free risk assessments to residents, helping them to NOT become a statistic, as wildfires have already claimed 11,000 acres of Texas land this year. Th Patrick Heath Public Library wants your feedback.
The City of Boerne and the library have created an online survey for residents. You’ll be asked for satisfaction levels, suggestions on what programming you’d like to see, and how you find out about your library news and events.
And Congratulations to Boerne High School’s top 10 seniors, led by Valedictorian Felix Theiss, Salutatorian Haley Harrison, Hailey Muir, Jocelyn Decker, Ethan Christianson, Penelope Rouse, Genevieve Sengler, Sawyer Werab, Bennett Albon and Brady Rolle. Congratulations, guys, the future is yours.
Boerne radio is delivered to you by The Boerne Star. Have yourself a great day, Boerne. God bless.
