Headlines: Camels Arrived In Texas in 1856 / Last Day of Early Voting / Water Quality Report Available July 1st / f
It’s Tuesday April 29th
And it was on this day in 1856 that a shipload of camels arrived at a Texas port. They were driven by land to Camp Verde in Kerr County and arrived there on August 27th. Secretary of War Jefferson Davis had urged Congress to bring the animals from North Africa to help the army in its Indian operations. Ultimately the experiment failed. Handlers found the animals smelly, and hard to control plus they spooked the horses.
Today is the last day for early voting in Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch. You have until 7 pm today at the Kendall County Courthouse Annex on Fawn Valley here in Boerne, and the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department at 7286 Dietz Elkhorn.
And looking way ahead, starting July 1st, Boerne Residents will be able to view the City’s Annual Drinking Water Quality report online. This report contains important information about the source and quality of your drinking water. If you do want a paper report delivered to your home instead of the online report, you can call (830) 248-1538.
And leading the class of the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame for 2025 is Cyndi Lauper along with other inductees, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Outkast, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Salt-n-Pepa and Warren Zevon… not making the list again is Iron Maiden.
Boerne ISD is proud to share that five of their elementary schools have been named Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools. Curington, Herff, Kendall, Fabra and Fair Oaks Ranch have been named for the 2024-2025 school year. This honor is awarded to campuses that demonstrate excellence in building a culture where students feel safe, connected, and engaged. And what school failed to make the list? Iron Maiden Elementary.
