Headlines: President Monroe Born On This Date in 1758 / Early Voting Ends Tomorrow / Judge Cohoon Pointed By Gov Abbott Over Sixth Ad Judicial Region / Fair Oak Ranch Drought Plan Update
It’s Monday April 28th.
And born on this date in 1758 was the 5th president of the United States James Monroe. He was the last of the founding fathers to be elected, he bought Florida from Spain, and with the Monroe Doctrine he established a long-respected policy that protected the United States from European colonialism. 29 States in the US have a city named after Monroe.
Early voting continues today and tomorrow at the Kendall County Courthouse Annex on Fawn Valley Drive by Boerne High School where polls open at 7am, and close at 7pm. If you miss that window you’ll have to wait until Election Day May 3rd this Saturday where the polls run 7 to 7 again, but this time its at Boerne City Hall or at the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department.
The Boerne Star announced that Governor Greg Abbott appointed 451st state District Court Judge Kirsten Cohoon as the presiding judge over the Sixth Administrative Judicial Region for a four-year term. The announcement precedes the debut this Fall of the 498th state District Court, which will be the second district court in Kendall County established after state Rep Ellen Troxclair filed a bill calling for its creation. County Judge Shane Stolarcyzk says that the creation of this new bench will save taxpayers millions over time, and that the state will pick up much of the cost.
The City of Fair Oaks Ranch wants to clarify that even though they have modified the Drought Contingency Plan recently, the city is still under stage 2 restrictions. That means that in addition to the stage 1 restrictions, there will be no ornamental water fountain usage, no sale of bulk water, landscape watering permits are rescinded and golf course watering is limited. If you want to review the latest changes and guidelines, you can find a direct page to their website in the Boerne Radio news blog.
