And it was on this date in 1898 that the US Congress officially declared war against Spain as Cuba had been fighting for its independence. The war would end in December with the Treaty of Paris in which Spain renounced all claims to Cuba, and gave Guam and Puerto Rico to the US, plus sovereignty over the Philippines for 20 million dollars…

The Boerne City Council Meeting on Tuesday is worth finding on the City of Boerne Facebook page.  Hot topics included water conservation as the summer approaches. There is a major wet well and a water main that are in the planning stage and needed approval from the council to move forward with funding. Furthermore, there was conversations about stop signs, mailboxes, and the generator at the water plant is almost finished being replaced. 

It’s a big day for scholarships in Kendall County, as both the Boerne Chamber of Commerce and the Daughters Of The American Revolution have chosen the recipients for their awards. With over 48 applicants submitting for 7 scholarships the Daughters have chosen Jack Osborne, a senior at Boerne High, to receive their Good Citizens Award, which equaled $1,500. Another Boerne Senior, Savannah Austin, received $1250 as well.  The Chamber will announce their winners at the upcoming school scholarship ceremony.

And a Boerne Radio Salute to Boerne High School and Champion for being ranked among the top public high schools in the San Antonio Area. U.S. News and World Report named Champion #4 on their comprehensive list, while Boerne was ranked at #12. Both schools boast near perfect graduation rates at 99%, as well as excellent academic records and distinguished standardized testing.
