It was on this date in 1836 that General Sam Houston and his men defeated the much larger Mexican Army in the battle of San Jacinto. The fight lasted only 18 minutes and was the final and decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. General Santa Anna was disguised as a common foot soldier and captured the following day .
The Boerne Star interviewed candidates in the upcoming May election, including current incumbents Mayor Frank Richie and Councilwoman Sharon Wright. Running against Richie is former city employee Laura Haning, and in a rematch against Wright is Joe Bateman. One of the issues in the upcoming elections is increasing terms from 2 years to 3. Of the four, only Haning was opposed to the increase, stating that “Regular turnover encourages accountability and prevents complacency”. The candidates also spoke on traffic and congestion within Boerne and talked about the most important topic to them.
Boerne Radio has also interviewed Councilwoman Sharon Wright and Joe Bateman in District 2 - both of those conversations are available now at boerneradio.com on our podcast page.
The Boerne Chamber of Commerce is closed today, but they’ll be back in action with a ribbon cutting on Thursday. The celebration is for Restoration Solutions by Elite and will take place in the Chamber Board room at 11:30.
