It’s Friday April 18th. 

It’s Good Friday - always the Friday before Easter remembering Christ’s crucifixion before the resurrection on Easter morning.  Today is a state holiday in Texas -  only 12 states recognize the holiday including Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, and New Jersey. Schools and City Hall are closed in Boerne, and the stock market on Wall Street is also closed…but the stone has been rolled away.

The Boerne Star’s Managing Editor Jeff Flinn broke the news yesterday that Rich Hovey the owner of Hovey Motorcars and his son Rick were arrested, charged with the alleged theft of over $300,000 and misapplication of property between $30,000 and $150,000. Bond for each was set at $350,000 by the 451st State District Court in Kendall County. After nearly a yearlong investigation, detectives said they uncovered an elaborate system in which the pair are suspected of illegally acquiring victims’ money — the value of which was tied to the vehicles — without the vehicle owner’s permission and intending to keep it for themselves. The theft charge will be tried as a first-degree felony, and the misapplication is a third-degree felony.

According to the city release, “The Boerne Police Department would like to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of detectives and community members whose contributions were critical in moving this case forward. The department continues to prioritize justice and accountability in protecting the citizens of Boerne and Kendall County.”
