Boerne is one of 25 finalists and the only Texas town on the list. It’s Tuesday September 8th. 

Our nation's Pledge Of Allegiance was published on this day in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. The original version published in the Youth’s Companion was a bit shorter than what we have today: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The words “Of the United States of America” were added in 1923, and “Under God” was added in 1954 by President Eisenhower.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office shared the sad news yesterday that Judge Frieda J. Pressler has passed away. She spent nearly 40 years on the bench, serving as Precinct 4’s Justice of the Peace since 1986.  Her service to Kendall County began with Kendall County EMS in the early 80s. In the Sheriff's Office Facebook post, they added  she was “a familiar and trusted presence” for generations in the community, and that her legacy includes the people she “helped, encouraged, and cared for along the way.”  They also added a scripture: Matthew 25:23 that says “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The Boerne Star gave us an update over the weekend on Crestmont Christian Preparatory School’s move to the Old City Hall Building on Blanco. Currently, grades Kindergarten through 5 meet at St. John Lutheran Church, and grades six through 12 are taught at First United Methodist. October 6th will mark the beginning of classes starting in the new building, housing 149 students, which is the largest class in the school’s history. A building dedication ceremony will take place on October 9th. 

Boerne ISD now has eight campuses recognized among the most military-friendly schools in Texas.  Six campuses earned the state’s Purple Star designation this year, including Boerne and Champion High Schools, Boerne Middle School North, Voss Middle School, Cibolo Creek Elementary, and Van Raub Elementary.  They join Curington Elementary and Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary, which earned the honor last year.  Purple Star schools provide special resources, transition programs, and support for military-connected students and families.  Boerne ISD says its goal is for every campus in the district to eventually earn the designation.

The State Board of Education honored Mrs. Kathy Bandujo and Mr. Jacques DuBose as 2026 Heroes for Children. Mrs. Bandujo leads Blessings in a Backpack, the organization that provides weekend food staples to countless families across the district, and Mr. DuBose is the Vice President of Corporate Sponsorships for Boerne ISD Parent Teacher Organizations. They were joined by Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft, Rich Sena and Yvette Reyna in Austin to receive the honors.  Annelise and our own weather veteran Jacques F. DuBose were by Jascques’s side.

Out of the Labor Day Weekend comes another Tuesday of volleyball- district games in fact tonight. The Greyhounds take on Harlandale, and Chargers against John Jay. Both varsity matches begin at 6:30. Geneva is playing Veritas Academy on the road in Austin- that game gets underway at 6.

Alright baseball fans… it’s home stretch time in the Major League season. If you’re an Astros fan, your team sits with a 2-game lead to win the AL West come the end of the month. But, if you’re a Rangers fan, you find yourself 2 games behind the Astros, and only a game-and-a-half behind the Guardians, who hold the last wild card spot. A little over 20 games remain… the Astros are in Philadelphia tonight at 5:40, and the Rangers are in Seattle for a crucial division series, at 8:40.
