It’s Friday July 25th. 

And born on this day in 1894 — Walter Brennan. He was the very first actor to win three Oscars… and to this day, still the only one to win all three in the Supporting Actor category. In one fight scene, he had his front teeth knocked out — a “lucky break,” he later said — because it helped him land roles playing characters 40 years older than he really was.

Yesterday, Hill Country Family Services celebrated their 40th anniversary with a Morning Mingle hosted by the Greater Boerne Chamber. Over 100 business leaders turned out, including Fire Chief Manny, Sheriff Al, and Officer Chris Dingman with the Boerne PD — and yes, there were tacos from Chilito’s Express.

Now stepping into leadership “for such a time as this” — newly appointed Executive Director Bryce Boddie — who began his role the same week as the Hill Country floods:

Last week, HCFS hosted a Resource Rally in Comfort — and another one is scheduled for next week. The needs are constant, and new ones emerge every day. At this week’s City Council meeting, the summer budget workshop series continued. The goal: finalizing the Fiscal Year 2026 budget by October. Plans include $3 million in storm water upgrades — funded by ARPA and Kendall County — along with progress on Fire Station No. 2 and the widening of Adler Road. The next big step: the proposed budget filing on August 8th.

And the City of Boerne is now accepting applications for 14 upcoming board and commission openings — everything from Planning and Zoning to the Library and the Visit Boerne Advisory Board. The deadline to apply is August 1st, and we’ve posted the link for you at BoerneRadio.com.
