When Katherine Torbick failed to show up for work and friends could not get her to reply to calls and texts, police were called to do a "well-being" check. Officers were made aware of a recent domestic violence incident at the home involving Katherine and Kevin Motykie. Katherine ended her relationship with Motykie and he had a pending arrest warrant for aggravated domestic battery involving Katherine at the time police arrive at the home. Police forced entry into the residence and found Katherine Torbick, dead, with multiple signs of trauma.
