ICYMI: A Frederick County 9/11 Story — Michael Strawsbaugh Joins Bob Miller on the Morning News Express

On the 25th anniversary of September 11th, Bob Miller was joined by Michael Strawsbaugh, a former volunteer with the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Department, to share an incredible piece of Frederick County's connection to that tragic day.

After American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, Woodsboro received an extraordinary call for help. The Pentagon needed the department's 1950s-era Mack Ladder Truck 16 because it was small enough to fit through a 10-foot entrance and into the Pentagon's inner courtyard. A crew from Woodsboro answered that call and headed for Washington.

Strawsbaugh shares what he remembers from September 11, 2001, how the Woodsboro volunteers became part of the massive response at the Pentagon, and the story of the old fire truck that became known as “the little truck that could.” The crew spent roughly 13 hours at the Pentagon helping contain the fire and working alongside first responders from across the region.

It's a powerful local story of service, courage and answering the call when our country needed help most — and one worth hearing again 25 years later.
