Jessica Thompson joined Bob and Chris to talk about her winning National Marbles championship Jessica Thompson, who is part of the Frederick County Knucklers representing Middletown Valley won the girls’ championship at the 100th annual National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood New Jersey. In addition to winning the top title in the girls’ division and other awards and prizes, she won the honor of Good Sportsmanship. Both of which provide a college scholarship. Note - Jessica is one of many winners in the last 20+ years representing Frederick County She was honored in the Heritage Day Parade in Middletown recently She was recognized by Frederick County Council Jerry Donald and by the Burgess and Council in Middletown She participated in the US Marbles Tournament in August and came 2nd in the Women's Division She has demo'd at several Frederick County Libraries this summer and plans to demo at the Frederick School for the Deaf in February. She has been invited to the Marvelous Marbles Event to demo in February at the Corning Museum of Glass in NY She will be inducted in the National Marbles Hall of Fame in June of 2024

A student at Governor Thomas Johnson High has been charged as an adult following a disturbance at the school on Wednesday morning. The Frederick Sheriff’s Office says just after 9:00 AM, two School Resource Officers were in the hallway during a class change when they saw a disturbance between two groups of students. They intervened and got between two primary parities to prevent the disturbance from escalating. One SRO escorted a student from the area, and the other one worked to de-escalate the other student. The second student resisted, and began to physically push and get away from the deputy. The SRO displayed but did not use his TASER. That student walked away while the SRO and school staff attempted to de-escalate the student.. They all entered a school office. While inside, the student pulled out a folding knife and began making threats of violence at the SRO and other students in the building. The deputy once again displayed his TASER, but did not use it, telling the student to drop the knife. He did as he was told, but continued to resist arrest. He was eventually taken into custody. The youth identified as a 16-year-old is charged with numerous offenses: 1st Degree Assault 2nd Degree Assault Dangerous Weapon on School Property Resisting Arrest Threats of Mass Violence Reckless Endangerment Disturb School Operation Affray Failure to Obey a Lawful Order He was taken to the Adult Detention Center. . His name has not been made public.

The City of Frederick this week launched a residential compost pilot project that is open to residents in Frederick. Any household that currently receives City trash collection is eligible to participate. During the course of the project, the City will pay for the services, and any households not included in the pilot can still participate in collection from Key City Compost for a monthly fee.
