Bruce Richards, managing partner and head of CVC Marathon, says Anthropic should be able to raise substantial capital in its anticipated IPO, pointing to its rapid growth, revenue trajectory and place among trillion-dollar companies. He expects capital markets to finance Anthropic much as they have other major firms, and sees the listing as unlikely to be a test of investor appetite. Richards says open- and closed-weight AI models can coexist, comparing them with successful open and proprietary software ecosystems; he expects closed-model companies such as Anthropic to capture significant profits. He is broadly constructive on the company, citing strong demand for AI and a shortage of computing capacity.
