CFTC Chairman Michael Selig Talks Monitoring Prediction Markets

Speaking with Tyler Kendall at an agricultural commodities futures conference in Kansas, CFTC Chair Michael Selig said the agency and exchanges monitor political prediction-market contracts for manipulation risks, including low trading volume. He said exchanges review contracts before listing them and surveil markets for suspicious activity. Asked whether investigations are underway related to the midterms, Selig declined to discuss potential investigations, but said the CFTC would investigate and prosecute suspected manipulation, wash trading or fraud.
