Having served under four US presidents, she achieved the rank of Rear Admiral (Ret.) with the US Public Health Service, is the former Assistant Surgeon General, and was the nation's first-ever Deputy Assistant Secretary for Women's Health. She currently works as a visiting professor with the MIT Media Lab.
