Jared Kushner, envoy for President Donald Trump, sends WhatsApp messages to royals across the Persian Gulf and has participated in investment meetings at his private equity firm, Affinity Partners.
Affinity Partners manages billions of dollars for Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, which have agreed to pay Kushner's firm tens of millions of dollars in fees annually.
Kushner's financial interests have created a fraught backdrop as Trump tries to put an end to the biggest foreign-policy crisis of his presidency, with critics saying his twin roles as diplomat and investor have blurred lines between public policy and private profit.
