Youth flag participation has soared in an almost impossibly short time, especially among girls. According to data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, more than 100,000 American high school girls played flag football at school during the 2025-26 academic year, which constitutes a 48% jump from the previous year and an increase of more than 550% from just five years ago. By the NFL’s numbers, approximately 800,000 girls from age 6 to 17 now compete in some capacity. We speak with Amanda Mull, Bloomberg Businessweek Senior Reporter.
