Blind Insights - Saving for Mother Nature's Retirement with Ecological Economics (Special Guest Phil Lawn)

View descriptionShare

In this raw episode get an inside look at how to calculate the expenses of inaction on climate with a candid and minimally-produced conversation with Ecological Economist at the University of Adelaide, Phil Lawn. For context, this conversation was recorded in late 2019, so Tim and David met with Phil in the studio to gain a very insightful and descriptive basis for Phil's work. We often talk about the cost of climate action in financial terms or the impact it will have on our wellbeing or our capacity to make things and keep lights on. This episode reveals the lack of logic in framing the conversation that way, and how inaction costs not just the environment, but everything within it, including us. With a holistic look at real resources, we can gain a greater perspective on everything that contributes to our wellbeing and our synergy with the world around us. Ecological economics is a return to including all kinds of capital in the equations, from social capital to natural capital, to financial capital, and everything in between.
