Gerard Rennick was elected as a member of the LNP and sat with the Liberal Party in parliament, until resigning from the party last year to sit as an independent with his own People First Party.

Rennick told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, "My issue is with the cost of registration for someone, for an Australian to actually run."

"So the registration cost for a person has increased from $1,000 to $2,000."
