The news from Treasurer Jim Chalmers that the budget bottom line is getting worse ahead of the looming federal election could be worse than he’s indicated. 

Deloitte Access Economics has estimated this year’s budget deficit, which Chalmers forecast to reach $28.3 billion, will be closer to $33.5 billion.
