On the final day of September 2026, Bill Bunkley’s Briefing delivered urgent breaking news of a terrifying mid-air drama that nearly ended in catastrophe. FlyDubai Flight FZ1073, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 carrying roughly 160–180 passengers (mostly Israelis) from Dubai to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, was over Jordanian airspace when the co-pilot (reported as an Omani national) launched a violent attack on the captain (an Indian national, Captain Samit Machchhar / similar spelling variants). The co-pilot stabbed the pilot multiple times in an apparent attempt to seize control and crash the aircraft—transponder codes briefly switched to 7700 (general emergency) and 7500 (hijacking/unlawful interference). The plane plunged nearly 17,400 feet in under two minutes, generating such extreme G-forces that the tail rudder was reportedly ripped off. In a moment of extraordinary heroism, the severely wounded captain managed to unlock the cockpit door; Israeli passengers and an off-duty airline crew then stormed the flight deck bare-handed, subdued the attacker, and regained control. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia (near the Israeli border). All passengers ultimately reached Israel safely after replacement aircraft were arranged; the captain was hospitalized in stable condition. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz labeled it an attempted jihadist terrorist attack, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the stabbed pilot as a “true hero.” U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee and others echoed the relief and admiration for the passengers’ actions—evoking the spirit of Flight 93. FlyDubai suspended Israel routes pending investigation. The show also covered a Florida mother arrested for leaving four young children (including a 2-month-old) home alone while she took a three-day Bahamas cruise, California’s new recognition of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as state holidays amid criticism of unequal treatment of other faiths, a UK counter-terror arrest near RAF Fairford, and a practical Medicare open-enrollment segment with Fernando Suspedes of Family Focus Insurance Solutions.
