Despite a dominant defensive performance, critical mistakes in the fourth quarter and undisciplined play led to a frustrating loss for the University of Tennessee. The defense recorded five sacks, eight tackles for loss, and one interception, highlighted by standout performances from defensive backs like TJ Metcalf and a 15-tackle showing from Joan Lane. The offense also saw a highly efficient effort from the quarterback, who completed 16 of 23 passes, though three separate touchdown passes were ultimately called back.

Ultimately, the game was lost due to poor execution and a lack of discipline in crucial moments. With a seven-point lead and under four minutes remaining, the team surrendered the advantage by failing to make a decisive defensive stop, which South Carolina capitalized on. This was compounded by giving up two critical turnovers on the offense's final two possessions—one on downs and one via a game-ending sack-fumble. Furthermore, the team committed 12 penalties for 90 yards, which included entirely preventable mental errors like kicking the ball out of bounds and fielding a true freshman wide receiver who drew a costly flag. The coaching staff emphasized the immediate need to improve game management and situational readiness to close out tight fourth-quarter battles moving forward.
