As one of the more prominent architects during KL’s early years, Arthur Oakley Coltman played a big role in laying down the foundation of KL’s iconic monuments. This can be seen in the buildings that he designed, such as the Oriental Building, the Rubber Research Institute on Jalan Ampang, Wisma Ikran, Lee Rubber Building on Jalan Tun HS Lee, and the Odeon Cinema, on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. These buildings all adopted the Art Deco style - a design synonymous with Coltman, and also that particular era. Elizabeth Cardosa from Badan Warisan Malaysia joins us to talk about his legacy and the importance of appreciating and preserving all his buildings, in relation to KL’s cultural and design history.
