Tuesday, August 27: ESPN Ithaca's Community Gamechangers recognizes individuals throughout the Finger Lakes who have made an impact in our sports community.
On an early morning in the town of Lansing, if you drive by and see a towering figure cooking over a large pit of smoke, chances are, it's Dave Hatfield and his chicken barbecue - gearing up to cook hundreds of chickens and fundraise for local high school teams and various clubs. Dave has spent nearly three decades making his chicken barbecue, helping raise money for Lansing high athletics.
His nomination from BTL's Nick Karski says, "Dave has a heart of gold and has been a gem to the area with the endless amount of fundraising efforts he's done in Tompkins County, and in particular, Lansing high athletics. Dave was one of the first community members I remember meeting when I first began here at ESPN Ithaca and I could immediately sense the commitment and care he had for student-athletes and the school district's athletic programs. His selfless commitment to the area deserves to be celebrated - and his food is pretty darn delicious, too!"
