# Follow the Money: Interest Rate Changes
- The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will announce potential changes to interest rates on January 30, 2025. Many hope for a cut, but uncertainty remains.
- In November, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) lowered the interest rate by 25 basis points from 8% to 7.75%, reducing the prime lending rate from 11.5% to 11.25%. While another 25 basis point cut is likely in January, further reductions this year seem unlikely.
- We are joined by award-winning economist and edupreneur Ndumiso Kubheka for this discussion.
