**Best of Africa – A Mysterious Illness in Congo Claims Over 50 Lives**

- An unknown illness was first identified in three children who ate a bat and has rapidly spread, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 people in northwestern Congo over the past five weeks, according to health experts.  

- The time between the onset of symptoms—fever, vomiting, and internal bleeding—and death has typically been just 48 hours in most cases. "That’s what’s really worrying," said Serge Ngaleabato, the medical director of Bikoro Hospital, which serves as a regional monitoring center.
