The Cult of Maurice Fitzgerald's point in 2001

View descriptionShare

Maurice Fitzgerald is a Kerry footballing legend. In a county that routinely produces wonderful stylish players, he is often held up as one of the greatest of all. He was known for exuding class at almost every touch of the ball but none more so than in his iconic sideline point against Dublin in the 2001 All-Ireland quarter final. As well as being one of the best points in GAA history, it was of huge significance as it levelled the scoreline late in what was a do-or-die setting between traditional rivals and the first quarter final in GAA history. Balls spoke to his former teammate Dara Ó Cinnéide about what it was that made him stand out.
