Why are we so aggressive on the roads?

View descriptionShare

I was late to work this afternoon because I had to take a detour due to a fatal crash between a car and truck. I don’t know what caused the crash, but I certainly saw the worst of Aussie drivers while I was diverting around the crash site.

Yes, it was an inconvenience. Yes, it was hot and yes it put us all behind. But we were all in the same boat. That however didn’t stop the horn-blowing, the finger gestures, the aggressive overtaking. The sad thing is, it was no different to a normal day on the road and not even the knowledge that woman had lost her life changed the behaviour?

How often do we hear callers to this program whinge and moan about people doing a few kilometres under the speed limit? How often do we hear complaints about P-platers? How often do we hear complaints about “revenue raising”? On that note, I’m banning anyone who says “revenue raising” from the program. How often do we hear blame, blame, blame?

When will we start hearing from people accepting responsibility? When will we hear someone say, I calmly accepted the delay? When will we wake up to ourselves?
