Why are people telling police to turn a blind eye to crime?

View descriptionShare

The coronial inquest into drug deaths at music festivals has handed down its recommendations and quite frankly I can’t get my head around it.

Whilst I might not agree, I’m not surprised by calls to implement a pill testing trial despite as I understand it, evidence that it wouldn’t have saved any of the kids whose deaths instigated the inquest.

However, I’m absolutely baffled by the recommendation that these drugs should be decriminalised!

I like to think I’m a pretty smart bloke, but I cannot for the life of me fathom how making something that we know can and probably will kill you, legal! Are we seriously saying that this thing that is against the law because it is dangerous will suddenly become less dangerous if we legalise it?

Furthermore, calls to remove sniffer dogs from festivals is tantamount to telling police to turn a blind eye to crime! We wouldn’t consider such a call for any other criminal endeavour.

Somebody please explain it to me.
