We need to get serious about sentencing.

View descriptionShare

Enough is enough! It’s time Federal Attorney General Christian Porter dragged his State counterparts into a room and read them the riot act over sentencing. I understand that we need separation of powers and our judiciary needs to stay independent, but when day after day we hear stories of manifestly inadequate sentencing, it’s time our representatives stepped in and started pulling some ears.

A Saudi student who filmed himself raping an 18 year-old girl won’t spend a day in adult prison, because- wait for it – he’s too small. Yep, Judge Michael O’Connell in the Victorian County Court sentenced this grub, who we let in the country to study mind you, to 3 years 6 months in a youth justice centre because he is “small in stature, [was] particularly immature, impressionable and likely to be very vulnerable in adult prison”. The judge’s words, not mine!

This creature didn’t seem to care about how vulnerable his victim was when he got her drunk and took her back to his student accommodation and had his way with her.
And then we have the case of 32 year old mother Annabelle Deall who was run down by a speeding driver back in 2016.

Her distraught father has quite rightly labelled the 20 month sentence handed down to her killer as insulting.

In this case, NSW District Court Judge Sarah Huggett said no sentence could measure the value of the mother-of-four’s life. Too bloody right but that’s no excuse to let a bloke off with less than two years of a possible ten year maximum sentence. HE KILLED SOMEONE FOR GOD’S SAKE!

Judge Huggett went on to say the guilty driver Menour Belkadi had lived with the guilt of her death for three years. So had her poor family!

I’ve had it with this rubbish!
