Victorian MP's are the highest paid MP's in AUS

View descriptionShare

Victorian MPs are now the highest paid in the country after receiving their second pay rise this year.

Now it must be said that politicians don’t give themselves pay rises as many will say. (They also don’t get lifetime pensions anymore, but that myth still persists too).

Politicians along with senior public servants have their wages set by an independent tribunal so that they are at arm’s length from such decisions. That’s fine.

But it begs the question, who is on these tribunals and how can they be so out of touch with the average Aussie who is struggling to make ends meet with almost zero wages growth?

As you know, I don’t begrudge pollies being well paid. They do an important job, under tough circumstances and most of them work pretty hard. But when is enough, enough?

Daniel Andrews will now be the highest paid Premier in Australia with a wage of $441, 439. Those who voted for him probably think he’s doing a good job, but did he need an extra $46,000 odd?

If our politicians were serious, they’d put a moratorium on any future pay rises until wage growth starts to increase and the cost of living comes down. Sadly, they’ll throw their hands in the air and blame the tribunal. Even sadder is that technically, they’ll be right.
