From the beginning, I didn’t hold much hope for the Banking Royal Commission. I thought it would be expensive, I thought it would be long and drawn out, I thought we already knew the banks were dodgy but most of all I didn’t think it would achieve any meaningful outcome.

My own bank, Westpac has proved me right.

After being found to have breached money laundering laws 23 million times. The bosses said “nothing to see here”. Even an hour before he finally resigned, CEO Brian Hartzer told his board he didn’t think the general public cared that his bank had, most probably unwittingly, facilitated paedophiles and purveyors of child pornography. How out of touch are these people?

What’s more galling is that old mate will walk away with a massive golden handshake to the tune of millions.

So, once again we’re left to ponder the question we’ve been asking since the Royal Commission began – when will someone go to gaol?
