The coronavirus pandemic might be waning, but many Texans who lost jobs because of it are still fighting for millions of dollars in unemployment assistance they contend have been blocked by bureaucratic bumbling and political maneuvering among state leaders. Texas RioGrande Legal Aid recently submitted an official request — a potential precursor to litigation — to the Texas Workforce Commission asking that it correct "systemic issues" that the legal aid group says have resulted in "repeated failure to deliver unemployment benefits (since the pandemic began) in the manner required by state and federal law."
