Hays High School unveiled its new mascot logo on Wednesday morning, which will replace its Confederate-linked Rebel mascot. In July 2020, the Hays school district school board voted to retire the Rebel mascot for the high school. In January, the district announced that it would change its mascot to the Hawks after polling current Hays High School students in ninth through 11th grade who will attend the school next year, as well as middle school students in the school’s feeder system.
