Thanks to a new agreement between Bastrop County and a grease-collecting company, stray or rescued livestock impounded by the sheriff’s office will now have a spacious area for safekeeping. On Monday, the Bastrop County Commissioners Court and Darling Ingredients signed a memorandum of understanding in which the grease recycling company agreed to allow the sheriff’s office to use several large livestock pens at the company’s processing plant along FM 2336. The space will more than double the county’s boarding pens, located next door to the county’s animal shelter. The company will front the costs of utilities such as water and power.
