Some community members and local business owners already have begun to embrace changing the Hays High School mascot this fall to a Hawk that will replace the Confederacy-linked Rebel mascot. Hays High School athletic teams might be sporting a new mascot in the fall, but Les Goad, head football coach and athletic coordinator, said it won’t be much different from what spectators are used to now. He said the school colors and the use of the block H will remain, but a new hawk logo, still in the design process, will be the significant difference.
