Governor Greg Abbott has picked the former Williamson County prosecutor who helped secure the recently overturned conviction in the Greg Kelley case to preside over Travis County’s new criminal court. Abbott’s office on Thursday said Geoffrey Puryear will occupy the bench in the 460th District Court until voters pick a long-term replacement in next year’s election. The announcement comes a day after the Court of Criminal Appeals overturned Kelley’s conviction of child sexual assault.
