A Pedernales Electric Cooperative director has resigned 90 days into his new term, after questions of potential conflicts of interest were raised during a closed-door board meeting. District 4 board member Jim Powers said in his resignation letter that he is leaving for personal reasons. But when asked Monday if other members of the cooperative’s board had requested that he resign, he said: “I’m not saying that’s not true." A PEC spokesman said the co-op's board talked with Powers about conflict of interest certifications and disclosures during the executive session portion of its Sept. 13 meeting. The board presented Powers with options, and he submitted his resignation. The spokesman said he didn’t know whether the board asked Powers to resign.
