24kGoldn stopped by our Audacy L.A. studio to catch up with Bru and discuss what he’s been up to, his new EP Growing Pains, vision boards, tour plans, and a whole lot more.

Making major waves in 2020 with the iann dior assisted “Mood,” 24kGoldn who recently just dropped a new EP, expressed his excitement about what’s next. “I feel like everything in the last couple of years has been building up to this moment, being in this studio, talking to you right now,” he said. “I'm just, I'm just excited to share, just excited to share what that's been like.”

Also talking about his fashion inspo these days, Goldn noted its “a lot of Lenny Kravitz, a lot of like just late nineties, kind of like early two thousands movie stars.” Noting, “Keanu Reeves was busting crazy fits back in the day, Brad was busting crazy fits back in the day, Johnny Depp, I just been feeling that swag.”

Recalling a story about seeing and liking the Ralph Lauren jacket he was wearing way back when he was 10 or 11 walking through Macy's with his mom, flash forward to 10 years later, “I’m at friend Bong's vintage warehouse in San Francisco and he has his jacket just tucked off in the corner and I'm like, I need this.”

A full circle moment, that in many ways is quite parallel to his latest project, Growing Pains.

"All the experiences and like trial and error. That's led me here to this, to this project Growing Pains. And I feel like the name is very like parallel with the experience of like, 'wow, I've come so far from, you know, this college kid not really knowing what the hell is going on in the world to like this point now.'" Adding, that while “it’s been a lot of growth, but it also takes some pain to get there.”

At 23 years old, Goldn did acknowledge “I'm objectively very, very young and I know I have so much ahead of me, but I've also experienced a lot. So it's this cool place where I'm not super naive, but I'm not super jaded and burnt out either.”

Ahead of dropping the 7-track project, Goldn released two singles, “Good Intentions,” and “Clarity.” Talking about the latter, which Bru described as “a high tempo song with some pretty heavy lyrics,” 24kGoldn said, “well, it's kind of like a trojan horse, right? Like you're bringing it in… like, oh, this is a fun, kind of like the drum and bass type song. And the melodies are like sweet and it's fun to sing along to. But like you said, the lyrics are pretty deep and self-reflective."

“So it's like sneaking in that message through the Trojan Horse of like this fun kind of danceable song," he continued. "I love doing stuff like that.”

Also discussing the topic of vision boards, Goldn revealed he recently stumbled upon the one he made at 16 years old, “and basically everything that I wanted on that vision board… came true.”

“Even though the things I put on there were so, practically like unrealistic. Like I wanted a number one record — I didn't know how hard it was to get a number one record when I was 16. I just thought that would be cool…Performing at Outside Lands, having 10 platinum records.”

Also sharing what’s on his current vision board, Goldn said, “I just wanna like do amazing shows."

“I think that's the biggest thing that I've been thinking about right now, and get better at guitar because I've been taking lessons.” And he went on to share, the two go hand in hand. Referencing “that video that went crazy viral of DMX performing at some festival,” Goldn expressed, “I have a vision of me playing guitar at a festival like that for like 100,000 people.”

But as for his Growing Pains tour, Goldn’s goals are a lot less grandiose. “I'm stripping everything back. It's really just me, it's really just me up there and we're downsizing the venues. I wanted it to be as intimate as possible,” the musician shared. “Everybody that comes, you know, that's in the Discord, is going to get a meet and greet… I just really want to connect with the people that have supported me all this time and be able to look in their eyes and have a conversation through music.”

For the rest of the conversation Goldn and Bru chatted about songs they’ve been recently jamming to, who he’d want to do a collab album with, plus so much more.
