Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man involved in a fatal car crash in Winder.
The incident, which occurred about a year ago, claimed the life of 23-year-old UGA
doctoral student, Beth Buchanan.
Twenty-six-year-old Cesar Macias, faces charges of vehicular homicide, drunk driving, and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Following the crash, Macias was hospitalized, but upon release, he vanished, leaving investigators with a search that led to his last known location at his parents' home in Athens.
Buchanan lost her life in the accident.
Her mother, who was a passenger in the vehicle, survived but sustained serious injuries.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Macias whereabouts to come forward.

UGA News
In recent campus incidents, bicycle thefts have become a cause for concern at the
University of Georgia.
On January 19th, a UGA student alerted campus police that an unknown individual had unlawfully taken possession of both his electric bikes parked in front of Boggs Hall.
One of the bikes, left unsecured for six months, was valued at $240, while the second, regularly used on campus, was valued at $105.
On January 21st, another UGA student reported her bicycle stolen from Myers Hall.

The student had secured her bike in the stands closest to Rutherford Hall and estimated its value at a substantial $626. Campus security is urging students to remain vigilant, double-check bike locks, and report any suspicious activity.

In swimming, the No. 7 Georgia men took down Emory 181-90 while the No. 13 Georgia
women completed an 189-101 win.
In basketball, the Georgia men lost to South Carolina 72-62.
The Georgia women’s tennis team defeated South Carolina during the ITA Kickoff
Weekend.

Athens News
At the Walmart on Lexington Road, a man swiped multiple steaks and deli hot food trays, according to a report from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
An employee witnessed the suspect, who later turned out to be banned from that
Walmart, stuffing stolen items into a backpack.
When officers attempted to apprehend the thief, he handed the backpack to an
unsuspecting woman and made a break for it.
Officers swiftly apprehended him, and found in the backback: angus thin sliced ribeye steaks and New York strip steaks, valued at $102.88.

The accused now faces charges of misdemeanor theft by shoplifting, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and criminal trespass.
