In this episode of At the ‘G – the first of a two-part special on the Boxing Day Test of 1981 – host Anthony Hudson takes a look at one of the most remarkable and dramatic days of Test cricket, when Australia faced the all-powerful West Indies attack at the MCG and Vice-captain Kim Hughes delivered one of the most courageous centuries the game has ever seen.

Speaking to Hughes and guests Terry Alderman and Mike Coward, Hudson situates Hughes’ unforgettable MCG century within his larger cricketing story and explores how the audacious stroke maker would eventually step away from the game due to the relentless might of the West Indies and the fractious state of Australian cricket.

Stay tuned for Part II of the 1981 Boxing Day Test, which looks at another memorable performance from the match – that of legendary fast bowler Dennis Lillee.

The MCC would like to acknowledge and thank Cricket Australia, ESPN CrickInfo and Radio SEN for the use of audio within this podcast.
