Why is drowning considered the silent killer?

View descriptionShare

Summertime has barged itself into North Texas with triple digit feel-like temps. No doubt a dip in a cool pool or area lake would be a nice way to cool off.

Drowning is also known as the silent killer. It can strike without warning. There often are no splashes, no cries for help, just a deadly silence. In a matter of seconds, lives are lost.

On Ask the Expert, Dr. Mark Chassay with Blue Cross Blue Shield joined the KRLD Afternoon News to talk about the risks and prevention of this happening to you and your family.

He wants everyone to stay safe, especially with their kids, when they head out to take a swim this summer.
