Michael Tubbs is the current mayor of Stockton, California. When Michael was elected mayor in 2016, he became the youngest mayor in Stockton's history, as well as its first African-American mayor. Since taking office, Michael has led his city through bankruptcy into solvency, launched the US’s leading universal basic income pilot, and helped lead a citywide effort to greatly decrease the murder rate, which was peaking the year he took office. Michael and his run for Stockton City Council were the subject of the 2012 documentary True Son, filmed the same year he graduated from Stanford.
