As we learn more about the latest Iranian assassination threats against President Trump’s life, Trump himself laid out what amounts to a “dead man’s switch” on his social media. Trump claims he’s given orders to the U.S. military to destroy Iran at levels they’ve never seen before in case he is assassinated. The President even told reporters this week in Turkey that perhaps his luck in staying alive won’t last much longer. However, the 25th amendment makes it very clear, what would happen if Trump were, in fact, assassinated: only Vice President J.D. Vance would have authority to make decisions about retaliation.
