Oklahoma plans to execute its third inmate of the year, putting 70-year-old Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez to death for the 2003 murder of his girlfriend, Olympic Fisher. Rodriguez first confronted Fisher and shot her in the right eye, she survived, but once police arrived, he shot a second bullet, hitting her in the left eye, killing her. Rodriguez doesn’t deny the crime and has expressed regret, telling the parole board that he understands it’s time “for me to pay for what I did.”
