Morning Run with Amy and TJ an iHeartRadio podcast.
Hey there everybody, it is Friday, November first, All Saints Day. Glad you could be here with us.
I'm Tjhilks and I'm Amy Roboch. Thank you for coming along with us on this Friday morning run.
And on today's run, candidates head west for campaign stops and share stages with the likes of j Loo and Tucker Carlson.
Also, the White House is being accused of breaking a major protocol by altering the transcript of Biden's controversial garbage remark.
Also, SIBS News is being sued for ten billion dollars. The plaintiff, Donald J. Trump and Elon Musk was a no show at his court hearing. Apparently he was too busy handing out money.
Also on today's run, Mayor Juliani gets some unwonted visitors to his Manhattan penhouse, unwanted because they were there to take his stuff.
Also, a sleeping airline passenger brutally attacked on a cross country Unite Airlines flight.
Plus Google slapped with a huge fine twenty decillion dollars. How much is that? Well, we had to Google it.
And still don't understand it. We will get into all of that on those mornings run, but we begin the run with the race for the White House. We head into the final weekend now before the election with Harris and Trump deadlocked in most national polls.
The latest polling released Thursday shows Harris is up forty nine percent to Trump's forty eight percent of likely voters. But according to pollsters, as many as sixteen percent of all registered voters could still change their minds when they reached that ballot box. And that is who the two candidates are focusing on in those ever important swing states that will ultimately decide this election.
Now, both candidates have been Chris crossing the country almost exclusively, hitting those seven battleground states, and yesterday they made stops in Nevada and Arizona.
Trump wrapped up the evening speaking at a Tucker Carlson event in Glendale, Arizona, and Harris had more star power beside her, with j LO introducing Harris at her Vegas rally. With just four days left in this campaign, Trump and Harris are both holding rallies today in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Yes, if you do not live in a swing state, do not expect to see either of these candidates over the next few days. They are exclusively in a few spots, and everything is raised within within the margin of era. It is up in the air for what's going to happen next week, and that is a kind of a frightening prospect. It used to be exciting to have a close race of some kind. Now we're so divided that you worry about what's going to happen.
That's true, and the problem is, as we've seen in recent elections, most notably in twenty sixteen and twenty twenty, the pollsters didn't get it right, and so there's a big question about whether or not you can trust the polling and how that then is used later if someone doesn't like the results, as in the Trump campaign, they can point to the polls and say, see, that's not what we thought was going to happen, and so clearly there must have been some sort of voter fraud. And so those polls, if they're mistaken, can be used to actually confus use the democratic process.
Oh, we sound cynical. Well, we mean to say, folks, everything's gonna go great, it's gonna be fine, but we want to continue our run now on the campaign trail, which has been dominated, as you know, this week of talk of garbage and other gaffs. And now the White House is being accused of intentionally trying to cover up President Biden's garbage remark by altering the official transcripts.
We all remember, Biden caused quite the stir when he seemed to refer to Trump's supporters as garbage. It happened during a video call with Latino supporters. Harris distanced herself from the remarks, which were immediately condemned by Republicans and immediately put the White House in damage control mode. Biden himself using social media to try and clarify what he meant to say. His comment that sparked outrage was quote, and we're quoting here. The only garbage out there I see is his supporters.
So the official White House stenographer's transcript reflected exactly that, But the White House really an edited transcript to the public that added an apostrophe to the words supporters, so it gave a completely different impression of what the President was saying and who he was talking about, and what the garbage actually was.
In an email obtained by the Associated Press, a supervisor from the stenography office wrote to the Press office that it was a quote, breach of protocol and spoliation of transcript integrity between the stenography and press offices.
This is apparently a major no no. These folks at the Stenographer's office keep an official word. This is official for history of that office. They said, hey, you don't have to release the transcript if you don't want to Press office, but you can't alter it. If you didn't like it, just don't put it out. That's within your right, but you don't have the right to alter it. You're playing just you're playing with fire here.
Altering it is one thing. And then we have contextual issues as well, when we see each candidate pointing the finger at the other about what one percent and said or the other. And certainly that's coming to play with Trump's comments about him protecting women whether they like it or not.
And we've seen that everywhere, and if you're listening to us, you've seen it everywhere. Trumps telling women that he is going to do what he wants whether they like it or not. Vice President Harris actually made a comment about this, including saying that he thinks he can tell women what to do with their bodies. The problem is if you go back, and I encourage everybody to do it, because both sides are guilty of this. The President, in his comments is taken completely out of context. He was talking about migrants. These are here's the words, talking about migrants crossing the border, and they are assaulting, they are raping, they are murdering our women and our girls. I want to protect women, he said. Some of his own staff telling him, hey, mister President, stops saying you're the protector of women. Just it was a bad look. He said in his comments, I am going to protect women, and I am going to protect them, whether they like it or not. Completely different context. Now, given his history, he should have known not to say something like that, and it was going to be used against him. He does have a history. He's been sued for assault, accused of assault, so a quote like that leans to some of some misogynistic history.
Yes, we remember the comments that were made where he didn't know he was on Mike with Billy Bush about women. So yes, this is a very touchy subject with the president and he isn't doing as well with women in this country as he is with men. So this could be a problem. But we actually I actually have the quote of what he said, because it was portrayed that he said it perhaps in the context of abortion and other women's issues. This is what he said, I'm going to protect them from migrants coming in. I'm going to protect them from foreign countries that want to hit us with missiles and lots of other things. That is what he said exactly.
And so we have an old problem. If you listen to his comments and you roll your eyes or you don't like it or think he's full of that's fine. The problem is we are too often in media giving a false impression, and politicians give a wrong impression, and they're feeding it to you and hoping you don't read the transcript. And it's just awful, this kind of back and forth. And those are two glaring examples. It seems like we were being manipulated in press headlines, being manipulated by the campaigns and some of their surrogates, and it's just they talk about anxiety and what people feel leading into the election. A lot of folks just want this to be over.
Yeah, it's the ugly side of politics, and right now that's pretty much all we're seeing.
Yeah, so four days left to go there, but we will continue up on our run now continuing to talk about Trump. This isn't necessarily on the campaign trail, but it certainly has to do with the campaign because Trump is now suing CBS News for how much? Ten billion dollars? Why well, Lawyers for the former president say in its interview with the Vice president, the network practiced deceptive conduct for the purpose of election interference.
Yes. The Trump lawsuit goes on to say that CBS News used and I'm going to quote here partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public.
Yeah. Trump's attorney's followed the lawsuit after demanding that CBS News released the full transcript of the sixty minutes interview with Harris. They say the network doctored clips of her answering a question about the war in Gaza to replace what Trump calls a word salad response.
CBS News rejected the assertion that had doctored the Harris interview to mislead the American people and said it did not hide any part of the Vice president's answer to that question. Trump has talked about this interview quite a bit while he's been on the campaign trail, and he's even threatened to revoke CBS's broadcasting license if he is elected president. The suit again asking for that ten billion dollars, but also asking for a jury trial in this case.
We will see if any of that comes about. But it's just this is a law suit here. There's gonna be a lot of talk about lawsuits between now and next week, and who knows how beyond. They are getting ready. There's an army of lawyers standing by right now for whatever happens next week. And stay with us here. We're going to continue our run. We're gonna continue our run, still talking about lawsuits. This time a guy was sued and he didn't even show up in court as ordered. But it's okay. It was Elon. He got away with it. We continue now on our Friday morning run with Elon Musk. He can keep writing those million dollar checks to registered voters and there might be nothing to stop him before election day.
The Philly DA sued Musk, alleging that his giveaways are illegal lotteries, but at a hearing yesterday, the judge refused to take action after must successfully petitioned to have that case moved to federal court.
But as of now there is no federal hearing schedule on the matter, so it appears Musk has the all clear to keep doing what he's been doing and giving away a million dollars a day until election day. He was ordered to attend yesterday's hearing, but he was a no show.
His attorneys showed up instead on his behalf and argued that Musk was too busy to attend. You know, being the world's richest man can be extremely time consuming. And when the DA's attorney challenged the idea that Musk was too busy, the judge clapped back, This was kind of funny, he said, counsel. He's not going to get in a rocket ship and land on the building.
You know, more judges should have since a humor. That's funny. Musk has been doing the daily giveaways about two weeks now, million dollars a day to a randomly selected registered voter in a battleground state who signs his petition supporting the first and second amendments.
Questions have been raised about the legality of those giveaways from the very beginning. Federal law prohibits offering money in exchange for voting or even registering to vote. Of course, Musk's giveaway, he says, is about signing a petition about the other two. And we should point out if you don't already know, Musk, of course, is an enthusiastic that's a good way to put it Trump supporter.
But we encourage you all. We said it here this week. If you get that million dollars, cash that check quickly, just in case something happens in court, we'll continue our run. We're going to run back here in New York where Mayor Giuliani is moving, whether he likes it or not. The deadline came and went this week for a former New York mayor to surrender his belongings to two former Georgia election workers who won a one hundred and forty eight million dollar defamation suit against him.
A moving company representative and lawyers were given access to his Manhattan apartment yesterday to see what property was actually there and then estimate the cost of moving it. Last week at US district judge ordered Juliani to give those election workers many of his prize possessions, including his five million dollar Upper East Side apartment, his nineteen eighties Mercedes Hit twenty six, luxury watches, and lots of valuable sports memorabilia, among other items.
Juliana was seen voting actually in West Palm Beach, Florida, yesterday and said he did not get a chance to defend himself in that defamation lawsuit, and he believes the judgment against him will be reversed on appeal.
The judge in the case ordered both sides to submit a status report on any property exchanges by Monday, and there will be a conference next week if any assets aren't turned over by them.
It's amazing. When we were talking about him moving and that was a moving representative anybody who lives in New York when you think about moving and moving trucks, I was just imagining a big old piece of cake pink trunk outside of is Afarman And I don't know if everybody else in the country knows what piece of cake.
He's a cake. They're everywhere here in Manhattan, New York.
They have these huge, bright pink trucks and you see people are constantly moving. So that was the first thing that popped in my mind.
Yeah, that's probably a fair assessment of what it was like.
All Right, we continue the run now this morning, and for you air travelers, this is just a terrifying story to hear about a brutal attack in the skies. Now imagine this. A passenger gets up, goes to the bathroom, It comes out of the bathroom and is walking down the aisle back to his seat, and on the way down that narrow aisle just stops and violently attacks and repeatedly punches a sleeping passenger. That is what happened on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to DC.
That is terrifying. Indeed, police say the man whose name is Everett Chad Nelson punched this victim, who turned out to be deaf and nonverbal. I mean, it's just disgusting and terrible. And he punched him repeatedly in the face until it was bloody. And this all happened. It happened earlier in the week on Monday on United flight two two four seven. It happened about two hours after takeoff.
And I couldn't believe you told me this detail. That police say this actually went on for a full minute, that Nelson kept hitting the victim until another passenger finally rushed up the aisle and wrapped his arms around Nelson to stop him.
Now, witnesses said he didn't fight the good Samaritan and actually went with him to the front of the plane, where then that good Samaritan monitored him for the rest of the flight. This was kind of interesting. The witnesses report that when that man, that good Samaritan wrapped his arms around him, he turned off like a robot and then just went limp for the remainder of the flight. He didn't even have to be restrained or detained in any way when they brought him up front. The victim, however, sustained substantial bruising to his eyes a major gas on his nose. He never fought back, and other passengers said they thought there might have even been a weapon involved. There wasn't, but because of the amount of blood they didn't think a fist could do that much damage. But it speaks to the violence of this attack.
United did praise the reaction of the passenger and crew throughout the ordeal. Nelson has been charged with one felon account of assault by beating, striking, and wounding. The FAA is investigating this incident. Seems seventeen hundred unruly passenger incidents in the air this year, and again this was It's scary. We folks like us who as much as we do, but anybody that flies and think about you or just sleep in your seat. We all are sitting in those uncomfortable seats, sometimes just the head back. And just to think that this happens in front of all those folks.
Week Man, you're so vulnerable because you're trapped in a plane thirty five thousand feet up and you're sleeping thinking you're perfectly safe. And by the way, right now, there's no known motive for this attack. It was completely unprovoked and random, so that also adds to the scary concept of what actually happened.
All right, folks, So on this Friday morning run our last leg. Now we are going to talk about Google being fined a major fine. The fine is so big it amounts to more money that there is in the entire world. Please, what is going on here?
Yeah, Russia is demanding the Google pay twenty decillion dollars after blocking several of the country's TV channels and media outlets from YouTube. Twenty decillion dollars. That is a twenty with thirty three zeros attached. That's a thirty seven digit figure.
What sense does is make well? A court in Moscow impose the fine after seventeen of Russia's channels and media platforms were blocked from YouTube, which own which Google owns. Of course, Google blocked the channels after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine back in twenty twenty two.
So a Kremlin spokesperson said that although this yes, is a very specific and large amount, one that he admitted he couldn't even pronounce, he said, it is rather filled with symbolism that might make a little more sense. He went on to say that Google should not restrict their broadcasters and that this fine should make Google leadership pay attention to the problem and improve the situation, as in allow their media platforms on Google's platform. Google has not weighed in on this publicly yet, but certainly this is making a lot of headlines given the ridiculous amount of money that Russia is demanding.
And when they do respond to this, I hope the statement simply says, yeah, we'll get right on that and move on.
Let me stop this is a ridiculous story, but it is one that is fun to report at least.
All Right, folks, as we wrap up the Friday Morning Ron, we want to leave you with a little something to consider as you go about your day and maybe your weekend.
This is another one from the files of TJ. Holmes. The quote is I love sleep. My life has a tendency to fall apart when I'm awake. You know, it's so funny because I always try to go and google these quotes to see who said them, or just give them at least some attribution, And so immediately I looked up this quote and it was attributed to Ernest Hemingway. But then I did a deeper dive and people were all up in arms over the last few years saying, Ernest Hemingway never said it, so it's been debunked. Anyway, we don't know who said it, but wow, isn't it true? At least the older you get.
Yeah, And I don't know where I got who might have said it to me where I read it, but I loved it. And obviously this is a guy I'm famously known for not sleeping a whole lot, and so maybe this is why I have so many problems in my life. I don't sleep enough. I'm so awake that my life is falling apart when I'm awake. But I love the quote, so we'll give it to him one more time as we head into the weekend.
I love sleep. My life has a tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know, And sleeping is what we're going to be doing a lot of this weekend in preparation for Sunday.
Big rest, folks. Sunday is the Redemption Run. Some of you followed, maybe you didn't. We had a little bit of a hiccup at the Chicago Marathon three weeks ago, but yes, we are right back at there like a couple of crazy people, and we'll be running the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Oh very exciting. The weather looks cool. That's my kind of weather, not your favorite. But I think we're going to be good, and yes, I love it. A Redemption run. No pressure, No pressure. You know what I always say? People ask runners, when do you want to finish? What's your time? And I have always said this, but I didn't say it before the Chicago one. But I'm going to say it now. My goal is to cross that finish line uninjured.
Mine is to cross it with you, one way or another. Folks, we appreciate you always running with us, if it's a short morning run or maybe it'll be the Mayor thought on Sunday. We appreciate you always being with us on.
Teaching and I'm Amy Robock. Have a wonderful weekend everyone, h
