This is a disturbing trend that is happening weekly, if not daily: a man kills his entire family and then himself. 44-year-old Alan Smith was reportedly kicked out of his Billings, Montana home, but came back with a gun during dinner and murdered his sister, her four children, his parents and his 90-year-old grandmother in a wheelchair. He then set the home on fire and took his own life as police were approaching. In the middle of his rampage, his 12-year-old niece was able to call 9-1-1,  where dispatchers heard gunfire in the background. Unfortunately, it was too late by the time police arrived, and unfortunately this summer has proven to be among the deadliest in family mass shootings.
