A “special court conference” is getting underway today in a Manhattan federal courtroom, after both the defense and prosecution requested a last minute hearing where sources claim Luigi Mangione will plead guilty to federal charges. If that happens, it puts his state murder trial set to begin in three weeks into question, with the defense likely to argue for dismissal on double jeopardy grounds. Mangione is charged in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December of 2024.
