The state of Florida is executing its 14th death row inmate of the year at 6pm ET. 74-year-old Harold Gene Lucas was 24 when he shot his teenaged ex-girlfriend in the head with a rifle and injured her two friends who were there to protect her. 16-year-old Jill Piper had Lucas arrested for trespassing and threatening to kill her the week before he went back to her home, to make good on his threat.  Lucas was sentenced to death five times over the past five decades and has now waived his final appeal saying, “The sooner it’s over, the better I’ll enjoy it. I am tired.”
