Stranger Foster Fire

You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for October 28, 2026.

We start with a story out of Alaska that has us fired up: two Dan Sullivans on the ballot for U.S. Senate. According to the New York Times, people connected to Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign recruited a second Dan Sullivan to run against Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan, apparently to confuse voters. We walk through how Alaska’s ranked choice voting system could make that confusion matter, why the President is calling it fraud, what the Department of Justice is threatening, and why the state Supreme Court ruling that let the second Sullivan stay on the ballot could make a lawsuit an uphill battle.

In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, the Federal Reserve holds interest rates steady ahead of next week’s midterms, an illegal immigrant is shot and killed by an off-duty FBI agent in Chicago after allegedly firing a gun into a homeless camp, and the United States grants asylum to Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro. Then we turn to Qatar’s reported seven-day proposal to end the war with Iran, and ask whether diplomacy through intermediaries can work when neither side trusts the other.

Our American Mamas, Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson, take on the question “How nosy are you?” The answers cover social media breakups, vague prayer requests, mysterious vacations, and the great “I just drink more water” weight-loss debate.

Next, we tell you about a biochemistry professor at Oxford whose appearance has people talking, and ask what a classroom is really for. In Digging Deep, we look at a new lawsuit against the state of Maryland. Christian parents say their autistic son was taken from their custody after they refused to affirm a transgender identity, and that he later attempted suicide in foster care in another state. We also look at what the family’s attorney says is a broader pattern of hostility toward Christians in government, and what that means for religious liberty.

We recognize Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans for the kind of personal accountability we need more of in America, even in the middle of a rough season. Our Bright Spot this week is Education Secretary Linda McMahon’s visit to Vanderbilt University and the school’s declaration of principles on institutional neutrality, free inquiry, and merit-based admissions. We also take a hard look at Senator Lisa Murkowski’s endorsement of a Democrat for governor of Alaska, and what it says about the letter next to a politician’s name.

We close with a Moment of Whoa. A driver’s GPS sent him down the wrong road in the middle of the night in rural Georgia, and he ended up saving 11 foster children from a burning house.
