What Happens if Democrats Win?

Campaign Promises

106 Year Old Voter

You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for November 3, 2026.

We’re coming to you live from Speaker Mike Johnson’s watch party at the Shreveport Convention Center on election night. For our D.C. listeners, this is the night-before broadcast, with the polls just closing in some East Coast states. We start with the familiar temptations of election night, like treating the latest polling average as if the ballots were already counted. We make the case that the polls undercounted Republican support rather than Donald Trump “outperforming” them, and we look at Republican registration gains since 2018 and the impact of redistricting. We also remind everyone that the voter who chose differently than you is a neighbor, not an enemy.

In the Top 3 You Need to Know, President Trump announces the end of roughly $4 billion a year in U.S. financial aid to Israel starting in 2027, while arms sales continue. An Oklahoma man is arrested in connection with white powder hoax letters mailed to hundreds of elected officials. And manufacturing beats expectations in October, with the ISM index rising to 55.5. From there we dig into a CNN exit poll showing 88 percent of voters called the cost of living a crucial or major factor, and we talk about why Americans are asking not just whether the economy is growing but whether they can afford to live in it. We also get into manufacturing, microchips and tariffs as a national security issue.

Our American Mamas, Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson, join us as early voting begins. They talk about the Texas Senate race, the Paxton and Cornyn fallout, the frustration with senators who vote with the president on paper but not on the votes that matter, including the SAVE Act, and why they think the Senate is the real roadblock.

Next, we look at First Lady Melania Trump’s work on a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which allowed hundreds of people to be evacuated and humanitarian aid to get through, and the return of kidnapped Ukrainian children. In Digging Deep, we ask what actually happens if Democrats win Congress. We cover President Trump’s “Mr. Veto” comments to Miranda Devine, the subpoenas House Democrats are already promising, the impeachment talk, and the pardons we expect before the end of the year. We also step back and reflect on the American experiment in self-government, and why we should argue with ideas rather than with each other.

In our Bright Spot, we look at CivicBond.us, a new idea that asks candidates to put their own money in escrow behind a campaign promise, and at Texas congressional candidate Brandon Herrera, who has put $1,776 behind his pledge to ban stock trading by members of Congress. We also talk about NFL legend Rob Gronkowski showing up in New Hampshire to encourage people to vote. We close with a Moment of Whoa for 106-year-old Ernest Ford Sr., who just cast his 80th vote and has never missed an election.
